Getting the skunk

At Asbury Park, home of Bruce Springstein, eigth ave. jetty.

Went fishing from 7:30-10PM last night, NOTHING doing.

Ah yes, my friend caught a stargazer... the second one I've seen
in my life.

I'll post a picture of that later.

But for now, know that we were using fresh clam, fresh squid, salted clam,
gulp, Saltwater flies, SPRO bucktail and squid... all with no effective results!

ah well, that's fishing.

tuna fishing was successful... sort of

My son and I went out tuna fishing as written below. The good news is that 2 75lb + bluefin
tuna were boated.

The bad news is I got sick about 4 hours into the 10 hour trip! Oh well, mission number 1 was
to get my son into big fish and it was a success! He fished well and boated 2 real nice fish
that fed (after giving some to the captain, mate and another friend on board) 6 families!

So not a bad day at all.

Missing a July run

Apparently there were anchovies in the wash close to shore
all week; I managed to go out last night 8PM, W: S-SE, ATemp:80, WTemp:70,
Surf:1-2ft; Water: Clear; Baitfish: anchovies; Used: Lures

A fellow got a hookup with a nice bass on a 6" white metal lip swimmer, treble forward,
single siwash with bucktail rear. The fish bent the front treble and got off. Nice fish.

I went this morning 5-7:30AM and got nothing. Tried a lot up and down, but the bait
had moved out and so did the fish. Oh well.

Tuna - first trip ever

Going out of Cape May aboard Blue Water Sportfishing.

Trip is planned for Saturday July 16, we'll see how the weather
cooperates.

Update to follow. BTW, this is not "free" fishing... the charter will
actually COST me some $$ :)

The Hook - Late June

Made it out to Sandy Hook, the rip, early on a morning in late June.

Once there I managed to hook up with a small bluefish using a yellow/white
bomber with a green/white "redgill" teaser. The blue actually took the teaser!
First time for me catching a fish on the teaser.

Then switched to the fly rod and caught a Searobin on a chartreuse/white jiggy!

Very cool but then I remembered some chores I had forgotten about and
hurried home, cutting short the enterprise.

Yellow Brook

The Yellow Brook is a stocked stream accessible in Colts Neck most easily off Creamery Rd.

A beautiful little stream with only a limited amount of stocked trout.

Only by Grace

Can we approach what God desires us to be. There have been few times in my life where I
believe I have done all I could to help others, including my family, friends, coworkers and
acquiantances. Anything which I have done that is considered "good" (and I use that term
to convey the appearance by others, not by my own standards) can only be attributed
to an act of Grace by my heavenly father, God Almighty.

Of course, "father" is a term used within the framework of the English language, but
it conveys the parenting role defined within the bible that God chooses to use to describe
a relationship. Given the literal use of that word within the bible, I feel it is appropriate
to continue it's use. God is my (spiritual) father, my Heavenly Father.

So what is that in relation to "Free Fishing"? Jesus said 'Where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is liberty' and that He has ' come to set the captives free '!

I find it no small coincidence that His closest companions on earth were a few poor
fishermen from the coast of a tiny inland Lake ('Sea') in a small country, from a people
whom God 'chose' because they were the least, not the greatest!

I like to pursue fishing in the great outdoors because the witness of all nature is that
in Christ I am free indeed! I feel 'Free' while 'Fishing'! (NJ licenses for freshwater
fishing notwithstanding).

Free Fishing! Fishing while being Free!
